Join the Mechanical Engineering Team to assist with activities related to Optical Transceiver design.
About the role
This role involves performing thermal analysis and testing for Optical Transceiver design, along with supporting production site test stations and thermal calibration activities. You will create Flotherm thermal models and perform simulations to determine hot-spot locations and thermal margins within detailed SMT semiconductor and optical packages.
What you'll do
- Create Flotherm thermal models based on Design Engineer’s Solidworks assemblies.
- Perform Flotherm thermal simulations to identify assembly hot-spot locations and internal component thermal margins.
- Analyze thermal gradients and determine reliability margin within SMT semiconductor and optical packages.
- Conduct lab testing with prototype and production hardware to verify thermal simulation results.
- Export Flotherm models for customer use and support thermal performance questions.
- Analyze and propose heat-dissipation materials and methods, including thermal interface materials, heat-pipes, and vapor-chambers.
What you'll need
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or general Engineering/Science.
- 5+ years of experience in thermal design/analysis or a related field.
- Proficiency with Siemens Flotherm (XT and/or standard).
- Knowledge of thermal analysis (hand calculations and computer simulation).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Solid understanding of heat-transfer and thermal analysis & testing fundamentals.
Nice to have
- 3D Solid Modeling (Solidworks) experience.
- Well versed with hands-on assembly and disassembly of mechanical assemblies.
- Solid understanding of the safe use of basic hand tools and machine shop equipment.
