Trace application I/O to the SSD across NVMe and PCIe interfaces to optimize data center systems performance.
Originally posted 29 October 2026 by the employer.
About the role
As a Senior Systems Performance Engineer on Micron's Data Center Workload Engineering team, you will identify and improve the performance of memory and storage products in data center systems. In this hands-on, individual-contributor position, you will collaborate closely with SSD architects, product engineers, and customer teams.
What you'll do
- Conduct repeatable studies of AI, database, virtualization, or distributed-storage workloads on production-class systems.
- Plan tests with clear hypotheses, realistic configurations, and appropriate controls.
- Trace application I/O through the system to the SSD, measuring efficiency, completion time, scaling, tail latency, consistency, and power.
- Identify bottlenecks and test SSD features, system architectures, and competing solutions to provide data-backed recommendations.
- Develop test automation and analysis tools, including AI-assisted workflows, and share findings through engineering reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with more than 3 years of experience, or a master’s degree with over 1 year of experience.
- Experience in systems performance, application benchmarking, or workload characterization.
- Hands-on experience deploying and debugging applications on Linux.
- Working understanding of the storage I/O path, including Linux I/O, file systems, block storage, NVMe, and PCIe.
- Proficiency with performance-analysis tools and Python or a similar language for problem investigation, test automation, and result explanation.
Nice to have
- Experience testing AI infrastructure, databases, virtualization, high-performance computing, or distributed storage.
- Familiarity with software-defined or object storage solutions such as WEKA, Ceph, Cloudian, or MinIO.
- Experience measuring power, efficiency, quality of service, or SSD behavior under application load.
- Experience building reusable analysis tools or presenting technical findings to wider audiences.
- Working knowledge of AI-enabled productivity, automation, and analytics tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude CoWork, GitHub Copilot, or Power Automate.
