About the role
As an SSD Debug Engineer, your primary role is to triage and debug SSD drive failures for the data center SSD product line. You will work closely with the Product Support Engineering team to assist with resolution of customer qualification issues and lead activities to root cause failures.
What you'll do
- Perform root cause analysis for data center SSD failures on hyperscale server platforms, isolating issues across host, transport, firmware, and media.
- Drive cross-functional debug with firmware, platform, and customer teams, define reproducible test cases, and drive corrective actions to closure.
- Analyze host and telemetry logs, correlate failures with firmware source code and hardware behavior, and drive root cause to closure.
- Develop debug firmware in C programming across the SSD firmware stack to isolate and identify issues.
- Troubleshoot SSD performance issues to reduce tail latencies and improve IOPS and throughput.
- Perform lab work to replicate reported issues, create 8D/failure analysis reports, and author technical white papers as needed.
What you'll need
- BS degree in computer engineering or equivalent field with a minimum of 10 years of experience, or MS degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience in a technical related field.
- Proven NVMe and PCIe protocol experience debugging complex SSD issues.
- SSD firmware architecture and/or validation/test experience, with SSD firmware development/debug experience in C programming.
- Hands-on experience with debug tools including PCIe protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, and Linux tools.
- Experience with open-source SSD tools such as NVMe-CLI and FIO, along with an understanding of Open Compute Platform (OCP) specifications.
- Experience analyzing telemetry, host logs (dmesg, event logs), and firmware trace logs.
Skills: NVMe, PCIe, SSD firmware, C programming, root cause analysis
