About the role
Applied Materials is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to design and develop scalable, high-performance software solutions for complex, data-intensive applications. This hands-on engineering role focuses on distributed systems, large-scale data processing, microservices, and modern software architectures.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, production-quality software, APIs, microservices, and distributed applications.
- Build solutions and efficient data-processing pipelines for large-scale data processing, storage, distribution, and visualization.
- Work across Windows and Linux environments to optimize software for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Diagnose complex problems across applications, services, databases, networking, and infrastructure.
- Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews while providing technical guidance and mentorship.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary and globally distributed engineering teams.
What you'll need
- BS with 10+ years, MS with 7+ years, or PhD with 5+ years building production software, including large-scale or data-intensive systems, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong software engineering experience in C++, Java, or C#.
- Experience designing and building microservices and distributed systems.
- Demonstrated background in multithreading, concurrency, and performance optimization.
- Experience with data-processing technologies such as Apache Spark or Kafka.
- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL or MongoDB, REST APIs, and service-oriented architectures across Windows and Linux environments.
Nice to have
- Experience developing large-scale distributed systems or data-intensive applications.
- Strong software architecture and system-design skills.
- Experience with performance optimization, complex system troubleshooting, containerization, and modern deployment technologies.
- Domain knowledge or prior experience in semiconductor inspection, semiconductor manufacturing, or related semiconductor technologies.
