Design and develop GaN and GaAs MMICs operating from MHz through millimeter-wave frequencies above 20 GHz.
About the role
This role is responsible for designing and developing MMIC products from architecture definition through production release for applications in wireless infrastructure, aerospace and defense, satellite communications, radar, and test systems. The focus includes GaN and GaAs MMIC development operating from MHz through millimeter-wave frequencies.
What you'll do
- Design and develop GaN and GaAs MMICs, including power amplifiers (PA), low-noise amplifiers (LNA), switches, attenuators, phase shifters, and mixers.
- Perform RF, microwave, and electromagnetic simulations using EDA tools to develop circuit topologies meeting targets for output power, efficiency, bandwidth, linearity, noise figure, and reliability.
- Execute schematic capture, layout design, EM verification, and design reviews.
- Define and oversee characterization plans, wafer probing, and packaged device evaluation, correlating measured and simulated results.
- Support product qualification, yield enhancement, and manufacturing transfer activities into volume production.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across development programs.
What you'll need
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Microwave Engineering, RF Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8+ years of industry experience in MMIC design.
- Expertise in GaN and GaAs HEMT technologies, semiconductor device physics, and reliability mechanisms.
- Experience designing RF and microwave circuits operating from MHz through millimeter-wave frequencies, including products above 20 GHz (Ka-band and beyond).
- Experience with Keysight ADS, RFpro, Cadence Virtuoso, HFSS, Momentum, or equivalent EM simulation tools.
- Understanding of large-signal design techniques, stability analysis, noise optimization, linearization techniques, and thermal management.
- Expertise in high-power GaN amplifier design for radar, SATCOM, or defense applications.
- Familiarity with advanced packaging technologies and RF module integration.
Nice to have
- Experience in CMOS SOI.

How we counted: 257 open RF/Wireless Engineering (RF Frontend) roles from 36 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 3 Nov 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Analog & Mixed-Signal family row.
