About the role
This role involves supporting the development of advanced optical fibers, components, and measurement systems. It combines a strong understanding of optics and photonics with practical laboratory work to improve optical performance.
What you'll do
- Develop and improve optical fibers, optical components, and optical systems through design, software, and experimental work.
- Plan experiments, compare results with theoretical models and simulations, and use findings to guide further development.
- Build and troubleshoot free-space optical setups, including component selection, system alignment, stability, and performance improvement.
- Create measurement methods and test systems for laboratory and production use.
- Develop software for instrument control, automated data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Investigate performance issues in development and manufacturing, identify causes, and implement practical improvements.
What you'll need
- Master’s degree or PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of optics and photonics with hands-on laboratory experience.
- Practical experience building and aligning free-space optical systems.
- Understanding of optical propagation, imaging, polarization, and alignment.
- Ability to plan experiments, evaluate measurement quality, analyze data, and draw technically sound conclusions.
- Programming experience in an engineering or scientific environment with tools like Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C++, or C#.
