About the role
The Senior Metals Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting sputtering, evaporation, CVD, and RTA processes for metal and dielectric films. The role encompasses process development, equipment ownership, automation, recipe management, and thin-film characterization across GaAs, InP, or silicon wafers.
What you'll do
- Develop, optimize, and maintain sputtering, evaporation, CVD, and RTA processes for metal and dielectric films. - Establish robust process windows, transfer new processes into production, and support process integration, yield improvement, and new product development. - Serve as the process owner for sputtering, evaporation, CVD, and RTA equipment while troubleshooting process and tool issues to improve reliability, uptime, and yield. - Characterize thin films using profilometry, four-point probe, ellipsometry, SEM, XRD, and AFM to monitor thickness, sheet resistance, stress, uniformity, adhesion, and morphology. - Utilize SPC, DOE, FDC, and statistical analysis tools such as JMP to improve process capability and reduce variation. - Develop process documentation, work instructions, control plans, and FMEAs while supporting equipment qualifications, preventive maintenance, and technician training.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field. - 5+ years of semiconductor process engineering experience. - Hands-on experience with sputtering (DC, RF, reactive), thermal and/or e-beam evaporation, CVD, and RTA systems. - Experience processing GaAs, InP, and/or silicon wafers. - Experience with thin-film metrology, including profilometry, four-point probe, ellipsometry, SEM, XRD, and AFM. - Experience with manufacturing automation, recipe management, automated recipe download, and statistical analysis tools such as JMP.

How we counted: 1042 open Process Engineering (Semiconductor Process) roles from 56 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 21 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Process, Fab & Equipment family row.
