About the role
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing optomechanical and optoelectronic subsystem assemblies. The role applies precision design principles, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, and Design for Manufacturability across multidisciplinary cryogenics, optics, electronics, and manufacturing teams.
What you'll do
- Translate requirements into practical design solutions and collaborate with stakeholders to refine concepts and negotiate specifications. - Own mechanical and optoelectronic packaging designs from rapid prototype concepts through to production. - Conduct DFMEA, PFMEA, and risk analysis heat maps while maintaining process flow documentation, BOMs, and build standards. - Execute basic structural and thermal analyses to down-select optomechanical designs. - Maintain engineering revision control using systems such as SolidWorks PDM, Arena PLM, or NX.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline. - 2–5 years of experience, with a focus on optomechanical design and/or optoelectronic packaging. - Experience designing mechanical assemblies for optoelectronic devices, such as optical transceivers, co-packaged optics, and datacenter switching systems. - Expertise in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA). - Expertise with GD&T and tolerance analysis methods. - Demonstrated ability to execute deliverables against schedule and quality targets.
Nice to have
- Experience designing systems for cryogenic and vacuum environments. - Experience with the fiber optical industry. - Experience designing semiconductor-related optomechanical assemblies, particularly for vacuum environments or applications sensitive to temperature-induced drift.
