About the role
This role involves building the machine learning backbone of the Perception component for NVIDIA DRIVE AV, focusing on computer vision, LiDAR & camera perception, multi-sensor fusion, and AI infrastructure. You will work on inventing human-level AI for perception under real world conditions.
What you'll do
- Design, train, and optimize machine learning models for LiDAR/camera perception and multi-sensor fusion (e.g., object detection/classification, image classification, semantic segmentation, tracking).
- Develop and coordinate ML workflows, covering data pipelines, model training, model metrics, continuous performance instrumentation, and reporting.
- Take ML models and algorithms to product level on the NVIDIA DRIVE AV platform, developing product code in C++.
- Incorporate new machine learning techniques to improve platform performance.
- Collaborate with LiDAR/camera teams, developers, engineers, and managers for autonomous driving solutions.
What you'll need
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of relevant industry experience applying machine learning to address real-world problems.
- Strong C++ and Python programming and debugging skills with experience in developing for large, complex systems.
- Practical experience applying machine learning to lidar/camera perception and multi-sensor fusion in automotive or related fields.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and a strong understanding of the mathematical foundations of ML.
- Experience building and sustaining training and essential metric workflows for large-scale datasets.

How we counted: 512 open AI/ML Hardware Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 76 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 11 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
