About the role
As a senior technical member of the team, you will design, develop, and optimize high-performance GPU kernels for LLM and other ML models, focusing on AMD GPU architectures. You will analyze performance bottlenecks and develop architecture-aware optimizations to maximize compute efficiency, memory bandwidth utilization, and overall GPU performance.
What you'll do
- Architect and optimize AI workloads, including LLMs, quantized models, and emerging AI workloads for AMD GPU architectures.
- Design, implement, profile, and optimize GPU kernels, focusing on maximizing hardware utilization and application performance.
- Perform deep performance characterization across compute, memory bandwidth, cache hierarchy, synchronization, kernel scheduling, and execution efficiency to identify and eliminate bottlenecks.
- Develop compiler-level optimizations and code-generation techniques using LLVM, MLIR, and related technologies to achieve portable and scalable GPU performance.
- Apply AI techniques to create tools for code generation, debugging, performance analysis, kernel optimization, and engineering productivity.
What you'll need
- Strong C++ skills.
- Strong understanding of GPU compute, memory hierarchy, cache behavior, synchronization, and performance bottlenecks.
- Strong experience developing and optimizing GPU kernels using HIP, CUDA, C/C++, or similar technologies.
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in electrical or computer engineering.
Nice to have
- Must be a self-starter, and able to independently drive tasks to completion.

How we counted: 681 open Systems Software Engineering (Systems Software) roles from 73 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 14 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
