About the role
MatX is seeking engineers with strong Rust skills to verify that software models and hardware design behave identically and match specification for GenAI silicon.
What you'll do
- Write Rust tests that verify software models and hardware design agree with each other and with the specification - Build test infrastructure in Rust that makes it easy to add new tests and run them at scale - Develop and maintain harnesses that connect tests to hardware - Write tests that systematically explore corner cases and rare event sequences using targeted tests and randomization - Work with architects and design engineers to turn specifications into concrete, testable properties
What you'll need
- Proficiency in production Rust, including experience shipping systems using ownership, traits, generics with bounds, and enums as sum types - Strong engineering fundamentals with build systems, version control, CI workflows, and clean code practices - Knowledge of low-level systems concepts, including memory layout, concurrency, and bit manipulation - Willingness to ramp quickly on chip verification and hardware fundamentals - Ability to work on-site in Mountain View, CA 3 days per week (Tuesday through Thursday)
Nice to have
- Experience with hardware via FPGA projects, embedded systems, robotics, or prior hardware engineering roles - Experience with foreign function interfaces (FFI), especially Rust FFI - Experience with Bluespec (BH or BSV) - Familiarity with formal methods, model checking, or property-based testing (such as proptest or Kani) - Understanding of computer architecture, including pipelines, caches, memory hierarchies, and on-chip interconnects
Skills: Rust tests, software models, hardware design, verification infrastructure, randomization, corner cases

How we counted: 1259 open Design Verification (Design Verification) roles from 97 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 25 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Digital Design & Verification family row.
