Work on Studio, a browser-based, multiplayer platform for designing and assembling whole chips.

About the role

This role is for a Rust Software Engineering Intern on the team building the software for silicon chip designers, specifically Studio, a browser-based, multiplayer platform for designing and assembling whole chips.

What you'll do

  • Own major features from design through shipping across the full stack.
  • Develop deeply interactive, low-latency editing tools for chip design.
  • Implement a document model for real-time collaborative design.
  • Build the sync engine streaming edits between clients.
  • Optimize a GPU canvas for rendering millions of polygons smoothly.
  • Work on a plugin system built on sandboxed WebAssembly components.

What you'll need

  • Strong Rust, or serious C++/systems experience with a curiosity for Rust.
  • Solid systems fundamentals including memory, performance, and concurrency.
  • A track record of building non-trivial software from scratch.

Nice to have

  • Experience with game, engine, or real-time backgrounds (ECS, scene graphs, spatial indexing, physics engines, frame budgets, GUI, low-latency input).
  • Some EE, analog and digital knowledge.
  • Experience with deep, serious software like Blender, Ableton, KiCad, or other CAD tools, DAWs, game engines.
  • Background in distributed or real-time systems (write-ahead logs, event sourcing, replication, CRDTs, OT, websockets).
  • Knowledge of geometry, graph, and routing algorithms; spatial data structures; optimization.
  • Familiarity with schema evolution and serialization formats like Protobuf, Flatbuffers, Cap’n Proto.
  • Experience with graphics and visualization, custom rendering, shaders, GPU pipelines (WebGPU, Vulkan, OpenGL).
  • An interest in version control beyond just using Git, understanding its underlying mechanisms.
