About the role
This role involves conducting fundamental and applied robotics research across the full robotics stack, including perception, planning, control, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, simulation, and robotics foundation models. This research aims to transform research paradigms, transfer into NVIDIA's robotics and simulation products like Isaac Sim and Isaac Lab, and create new robotics markets.
What you'll do
- Develop algorithms, foundation models, and methods for robotic manipulation and/or loco-manipulation.
- Integrate methods into real-world robotic manipulation systems, including collaborative robot arms, industrial robot arms, mobile manipulators, humanoids, and dexterous hands.
- Contribute to multi-person research projects across the robotics and machine learning stack.
- Engage with the academic community through high-impact publications, conferences, workshops, and/or code releases.
What you'll need
- Enrolled in a PhD program in Robotics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of both the theory and practice of robotics and AI, with interest in real-world robotics applications.
- First-author work published in robotics and AI conferences and journals such as RSS, CoRL, ICRA, IJRR, T-RO, Science Robotics, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, and EMNLP.
- Exceptional programming skills in Python.
- Fluency in modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or JAX.
- Experience in AI coding and research agents, including critical validation of their outputs.
- Experience with robotics frameworks such as ROS2 and physics simulation frameworks such as Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, Newton, and/or MuJoCo.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with C++, CUDA, and Warp.
- Comfort working through complexities of simulation and real-world robotics, including debugging physics simulators and renderers, selecting, setting up, maintaining, and enhancing complex robotics hardware, debugging communication systems, and designing robust workflows for model training and evaluation.

How we counted: 522 open AI/ML Hardware Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 76 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 22 Sept 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
