Focus on superconducting quantum device design architectures, EM simulation, and quantum process development kits (PDKs).
About the role
This role leads research projects in quantum computing, focusing on superconducting quantum device design engineering. The technical scope covers device architectures including microwave resonators, qubits, readout and coupling architectures, and packaging solutions leading to quantum process development kits (PDKs).
What you'll do
- Lead and execute research projects in superconducting qubit device design, QPU designs, and packaging-level architectures required for complex QPU assembly. - Perform design and EM simulation of superconducting packaging solutions, ranging from qubit chiplets assembly with base wafers to external field shielding solutions. - Develop, simulate, and refine device layout designs in close collaboration with measurement and material scientists to address material and interface properties. - Develop device designs and evaluate thin-film material systems for quantum process development kits (PDKs). - Author technical papers, present findings at conferences, and communicate technical reports and visualizations to project stakeholders.
What you'll need
- Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. - Experience in device nanofabrication challenges, packaging, and low-temperature characterization of superconducting qubit-based devices. - Experience in design and EM simulation of superconducting qubit devices, including QPU chiplets assembly designs. - Experience in materials characterization, electronic characterization, or optical device characterization across other device systems. - Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Rust, TCL, or C, and knowledge of (or willingness to learn) FPGA-based microcontrollers.
