About the role
As a Principal Engineer Applications, you will execute system solution roadmaps for AI data center and telecom power delivery, including application notes, solution boards, and simulation models. The work focuses on power electronics subsystems for high-density AI accelerators, custom DC-DC power converters, and wide-bandgap semiconductors such as GaN and SiC.
What you'll do
- Lead the conceptualization, design, and validation of power electronics subsystems tailored for high-density AI accelerators, including custom DC-DC power converters and dynamic power supply architectures. - Explore DC/DC power conversion methods such as resonant converters, wide-bandgap semiconductors (GaN, SiC), and HV-IBC architectures for AI infrastructure. - Evaluate system architecture and application requirements for telecom and server power supplies, conducting market research and hardware teardowns. - Develop system concept verification and design-in collaterals, including concept evaluation designs, application notes, and technical customer support. - Provide technical inputs for customer proposals (RFIs/RFQs) and contribute to digital controllers, analog controllers, and power stages product feature definitions. - Mentor engineers, provide training on power electronics topics, and conduct design reviews before board and collateral release.
What you'll need
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering with at least 8 years of experience, or B.S. in Electrical Engineering with at least 10 years of experience in power electronics with an emphasis on isolated and non-isolated DC/DC power converters. - Extensive knowledge of DC-DC converter topologies, magnetic components, and power semiconductor characteristics. - Hands-on experience developing DC/DC power converter solutions through concept, block diagrams, simulation, schematic, PCB layout, board-level debugging, test, and validation. - Experience using simulation and PCB design tools. - Experience mentoring junior engineers, conducting technical trainings, and performing design reviews.
Nice to have
- Experience using digital and analog controllers and gate drivers for power management (Si and GaN). - Experience in magnetics design and optimization. - Experience with safety and EMI compliance. - Advanced degree or doctorate in electrical engineering, power electronics, or a related technical field. - Expertise in telecom brick designs, rack power supplies, or artificial intelligence power architectures. - At least 5 years of application engineering or system engineering experience at an OEM, Tier 1, or engineering service provider.
