Research and develop integrated photonic technologies at Keysight Laboratories using RSoft, Lumerical, Tidy3D, IPKISS, and KLayout.
About the role
At Keysight Laboratories, you will invent, develop, and validate integrated photonic technologies, applying expertise in measurement science as well as the theoretical principles and practical applications of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Your initial work spans theoretical analysis, photonic device simulations, PIC layout, and PIC component measurements.
What you'll do
- Identify new technologies early and evaluate how they can best be harnessed for Keysight. - Invent new measurement concepts or implementations to impact Keysight’s businesses. - Implement concepts in actual hardware and software to prove feasibility. - Perform theoretical analysis, photonic device simulations, PIC layout, and PIC component measurements. - Work with Keysight’s businesses to transfer the technology into commercial products.
What you'll need
- Ph.D. degree in a relevant field (Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics). - Demonstrated ability to perform research in integrated photonics. - Deep understanding of optical waveguide theory, including mode solving, confinement, polarization, and dispersion. - PIC simulation, design, and layout experience using tools such as RSoft, Lumerical, Tidy3D, IPKISS, or KLayout. - Extensive hands-on PIC component characterization experience. - Familiarity with die- or wafer-level optical and electrical probing of passive and active PIC devices.
Nice to have
- Experience with script-based PIC layout. - Familiarity with commercial PIC foundry tape-out processes. - Experience in RF or microwave simulation and design. - Experience with circuit-level simulations using ADS, INTERCONNECT, or VPI. - Photonic or electronic packaging experience. - Lab automation with Python for instrument control and data acquisition.
