About the role
As an Optical Transceiver Engineer at Coherent Corp, you will work on optical transceiver hardware and electrical design from conception through high-volume manufacturing. You will collaborate with firmware, optical, mechanical, and process engineers to deliver products meeting customer specifications and reliability requirements.
What you'll do
- Conduct electrical, optical, thermal, and timing measurements of optical transceivers and generate specification compliance reports. - Design new or revised PCBAs for optical transceivers, using electronics CAD tools and electronic system modelling. - Conduct RF simulation of high-speed signal communication links and troubleshoot transceiver performance issues. - Create drawings, BOMs, and ECOs to document designs while coordinating with program managers, buyers/planners, and suppliers. - Support transceiver design reviews across Architectural, EVT, and DVT phases, while resolving DFM feedback from engineering and manufacturing. - Integrate hardware with real-time control firmware and coordinate with mechanical and optical engineers on component packaging and specification definition.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field with relevant hardware engineering experience. - Strong analog circuit design skills with an understanding of circuit theory, linear system theory, feedback, ICs, and high-speed RF fundamentals. - Hands-on laboratory measurement skills and experience across the board-level design cycle. - Experience with electronics CAD tools, electronic system modelling, and hardware/electrical testing. - Ability to debug and troubleshoot complex optical and electrical issues independently.
Nice to have
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field. - Expertise in RF design using modeling tools such as CST or HFSS. - Understanding of microprocessors and real-time control firmware. - Direct experience with optical transceiver design, component selection, integration, and optical simulation tools.

How we counted: 1003 open Hardware Systems Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 104 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 22 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
