About the role
Applied Materials is seeking a hands-on New Product Manufacturing Engineer (NPME) to build and integrate its X-ray inspection and metrology systems and to support product safety certification. The role focuses on personally building first-article systems and establishing repeatable production processes in a cleanroom environment.
What you'll do
- Build first-article and pilot systems hands-on in a cleanroom environment, covering mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, system integration, and bring-up.
- Develop and validate Operation Method Sheets (OMS) for medium-complexity modules in collaboration with the documentation team.
- Correct and update SolidWorks models, assemblies, drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) to keep design data aligned with the as-built configuration.
- Participate in design reviews to deliver Design for Assembly (DFA) and manufacturability feedback to the new product development team.
- Execute change control processes, including Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Non-Standard Requests (NSRs), Change Control Board (CCB) reviews, Supplier Problem Sheets (SPSs), and Engineering Specification Waivers (ESWs).
- Document issues, perform Root Cause Corrective Analysis (RCCA), and support product compliance testing and certification under UL/IEC 61010-1, CE, and SEMI S2, S8, and S22 standards.
What you'll need
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 4+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in capital equipment.
- Demonstrated experience personally building first-article or prototype electromechanical systems.
- SolidWorks proficiency, including modifying existing models, assemblies, and drawings.
- Hands-on experience supporting UL/IEC 61010-1, CE, or SEMI S2 certification.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams, with working knowledge of harnessing, panel wiring, and power distribution.
- Experience working in a cleanroom environment.
Nice to have
- Semiconductor capital equipment experience.
- Experience with X-ray, vacuum, or precision motion systems.

How we counted: 2487 open Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering (Manufacturing Equipment) roles from 78 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 25 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Process, Fab & Equipment family row.
