About the role
Designs and develops technologies related to the generation or manipulation of content targeted at the human senses or machine perception, including speech, audio, imaging, computer vision, display, sensing, biometrics, and augmented/virtual reality. Analyzes multimedia use cases and performs functional decomposition, system analysis, and simulation modeling to optimize performance and power across hardware and software.
What you'll do
- Analyze multimedia use cases and perform functional decomposition to drive implementation requirements into hardware or software. - Perform system analysis and use simulation modeling to propose algorithmic or system modifications for performance and power optimization. - Create architectures that address ambiguous requirements, guide systems-level software and hardware development, and decide how solutions are partitioned on the SOC level. - Execute design reviews, evaluate topologies against performance and cost variables, and reinforce design integrity based on platform constraints. - Oversee architectural decisions and technical vision for testing, data analysis, and design validation across multiple multimedia systems teams. - Review proposals, roadmaps, and experiments to train and evaluate machine learning solutions within the multimedia domain.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field with 8+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience (or Master's degree with 7+ years, or PhD with 6+ years). - Experience in system analysis and simulation modeling to evaluate algorithmic modifications and optimize system performance. - Experience defining architectures and functional requirements for systems-level hardware or software implementation.
Nice to have
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field. - 11 years of Systems Engineering or related work experience. - 2 years of experience working in one or more multimedia technology areas (speech, audio, imaging, computer vision, display, sensing, biometrics, or augmented/virtual reality).

How we counted: 103 open Hardware Systems Engineering (SOC Architecture) roles from 27 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 25 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
