What you'll do
- Characterize AI inference workloads and examine memory behavior
- Build and evaluate tiered memory hierarchies for AI accelerators
- Study KV cache lifecycles, MoE models, and data placement strategies
- Compare and optimize explicit versus hardware-assisted data movement
- Develop, test, debug, and detail system-level and OS components
- Prototype and evaluate agentic AI systems by building agents and multi-agent workflows
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience, or Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Strong background in memory systems, operating systems, distributed systems, or parallel computing
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python with hands-on systems programming experience
- Experience working in Linux environments, including shell scripting and debugging tools
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in teams
Nice to have
- Experience with advanced memory technologies such as HBM and LPDDR
- Familiarity with AI/ML systems, particularly inference workloads
- Experience with GPU programming frameworks such as CUDA or OpenCL
- Knowledge of performance analysis and system-level optimization techniques
- Experience with Linux kernel memory management or system-level simulation models

How we counted: 106 open Hardware Systems Engineering (SOC Architecture) roles from 28 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 10 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row. Figures refresh nightly.
