About the role
This role leads a mechanical engineering team developing semiconductor hardware and precursor delivery systems within the Advanced Deposition Hardware team in Round Rock, TX. The team designs delivery system products for solid and liquid ALD and CVD precursors across the full product lifecycle.
What you'll do
- Lead a team of mechanical engineers in the design, development, verification, and deployment of semiconductor delivery system products for solid and liquid ALD and CVD precursors. - Partner with systems engineering, electrical engineering, controls, materials scientists, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to deliver precursor delivery systems supporting high-volume manufacturing (HVM). - Ensure mechanical designs meet requirements for ultra-clean vacuum environments, thermal management, gas delivery, purge performance, and stability across thermal cycling. - Direct design choices involving vacuum components, contamination control materials selection, corrosive chemistries, tool maintainability, and uptime. - Collaborate with domestic and international contract manufacturers on building, testing, qualification, and continuous improvement within a Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) framework. - Create, manage, and validate deliverables from product development through release to manufacturing.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. - 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including 3+ years in a technical leadership or people-management role. - Direct experience designing semiconductor processing equipment. - Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX) and engineering analysis methods. - Experience transitioning designs from R&D to high-volume manufacturing. - Knowledge of semiconductor industry standards, safety requirements, and cleanliness protocols.
Nice to have
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. - Direct experience designing ALD, CVD, or related vacuum-based deposition tools. - Background in precision mechanical design, vacuum systems and leak integrity, thermal management and heat transfer, and materials selection for corrosive and high-temperature environments.

How we counted: 1017 open Hardware Systems Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 102 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 24 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
