About the role
This role executes machining processes on day shift utilizing Swiss lathes, advanced metrology, and auxiliary equipment to manufacture precision-machined components. The position supports the Precision Meso-scale Technology Center (PMTC) in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.
What you'll do
- Operate CNC Swiss style lathes independently to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous production. - Perform complete machine setups, including tooling selection, offsets, program verification, and first-article approval. - Make in-process adjustments to tooling, offsets, feeds, and speeds to maintain part quality and dimensional control. - Troubleshoot machining issues such as tool wear, machine alarms, surface finish problems, and dimensional variation to optimize process stability and cycle time. - Grind, sharpen, and recondition carbide and HSS cutting tools per specification. - Perform routine machine checks, preventive maintenance, and maintain accurate production, quality, and downtime records.
What you'll need
- Minimum 5 years of experience with CNC Swiss, Lathe, or Mill equipment. - Strong working knowledge of FANUC CNC controls. - Proven experience machining small, high-precision turned parts. - Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot machining and quality issues. - Experience with carbide tool grinding and/or resharpening, advanced metrology, and CNC programming. - Ability to interpret specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
