About the role
As a Machine Learning Researcher, you will conduct fundamental research to create machine learning methodology for mobile, edge, auto, and IoT products. This work includes advancing model efficiency and exploring compute paradigms like compute in memory, on-device learning, and federated learning.
What you'll do
- Conduct fundamental research to create new models or training methods across areas such as deep generative models, Bayesian deep learning, equivariant CNNs, reinforcement learning, and graph NNs. - Drive systems innovations for model efficiency advancement on device and in the cloud, including auto-ML methods, model compression, quantization, architecture search, and compiler scheduling. - Perform platform research to enable machine learning compute paradigms including compute in memory, on-device learning, and edge-cloud distributed/federated learning. - Develop, test, optimize, and document complex machine learning algorithms, models, and methods aligned with research strategies. - Publish research findings in presentations and machine learning conference papers, and develop patentable ideas for new solutions.
What you'll need
- Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 2+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience; OR a PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field. - 6+ months of academic or work experience developing or optimizing machine learning models, systems, platforms, or methods.
Nice to have
- PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field. - 2 publications at a machine learning conference. - 2 years of experience working in a large matrixed organization. - 1 year of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director and above). - 1 year of experience with machine learning research related to new models, systems innovations, platforms, or methodology.

How we counted: 509 open AI/ML Hardware Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 75 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 23 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
