About the role
As a software engineering intern in Samsung's Power & Thermal Lab, you will contribute to the development of a power and thermal simulation tool used by memory architecture and packaging teams.
What you'll do
- Build automation pipelines for simulation runs, regression testing, and result tracking. - Implement and optimize trace-driven power-thermal simulation engines. - Generate transient power maps, perform spatiotemporal hotspot analysis, and interface with reduced-order/CFD-calibrated thermal solvers. - Develop RTL-, SystemC-, and C-based power macromodels for AI memory component IPs using analytical modeling, LUT, FSM, and neural networks. - Extract activity-, value-, and state-dependent power features from C, SystemC, and RTL simulations. - Integrate IP-level power macromodels into system-level simulations and manage time-indexed simulation flow across power and thermal domains.
What you'll need
- Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related major, with at least 1 academic quarter or semester remaining. - Proficiency in C++, scripting workflows in Python or Bash, and SystemC and/or transaction-level modeling. - Systems-level software engineering skills.
Nice to have
- RTL design, synthesis, and analysis research or experience using Verilog, SystemVerilog, or SystemC. - Experience with large-scale simulation or EDA/CFD adjacent tooling environments. - Familiarity with discrete event or time-stepped simulation architecture. - Experience with GPU, computer architecture, AI memory, memory controllers, PHYs, or high-speed I/O.

How we counted: 1022 open Hardware Systems Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 100 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 28 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
