About the role
MatX is seeking a hands-on Lab Manager to oversee daily operations, organization, and infrastructure for our high-speed electrical and optical test lab. This role supports engineers working on high-speed interconnects, signal and power integrity, and optical qualification using oscilloscopes, BERTs, and VNAs.
What you'll do
- Perform precision hand soldering and rework on fine-pitch SMT components, 0.4mm pitch BGAs, flex connectors, and high-speed RF/coaxial connectors, executing ECOs on prototype PCBs and SVKs. - Conduct board-level failure analysis for solder joint, trace, pad, and ESD damage inspection using stereo and digital microscopes. - Manage calibration kits, reference cable libraries, calibration schedules, third-party servicing, and periodic VNA cable characterization. - Provide first-line operation and support for bench instruments including oscilloscopes, BERTs, VNAs, optical power meters, spectrum analyzers, and power supplies. - Support remote engineers by configuring instruments over GPIB, LAN, and USB, validating automation scripts, connecting probes, and swapping DUT configurations. - Source and procure lab equipment, components, and consumables while managing purchase orders, vendor quotes, RMAs, and real-time inventory tracking.
What you'll need
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience. - 5+ years of experience in an electronics test lab, hardware prototyping lab, or equivalent environment. - IPC-A-610 certification (Class 2 minimum). - Demonstrated experience with hand soldering, SMT rework, and BGA reballing/inspection. - Proficiency with bench instruments including oscilloscopes, power supplies, and VNAs. - Experience with optical fiber handling, including connector inspection, cleaning, and polarity verification. - Working knowledge of ESD controls and OSHA/EHS safety standards.
Nice to have
- IPC-A-610 Class 3 certification. - J-STD-001 soldering certification. - Proficiency with procurement tools (such as SAP or Coupa) and asset tracking software.
