Work on the design and development of the world's highest performance oscilloscopes.
About the role
This role involves owning hardware designs and collaborating with a global multi-functional team to invent and develop new time-domain measurement instruments.
What you'll do
- Learn the hardware architecture of sampling oscilloscopes and own design of block diagram components.
- Invent and implement designs for new instrument block diagram parts, including optical and electrical frontends, signal sampling sub-systems, and clock recovery/phase lock loop design at frequencies from 20 GHz to 200GHz.
- Integrate individual designs into new instruments with R&D hardware and software engineers.
- Document and present measurement IP and test methodologies to R&D and multi-functional partners.
- Bring new designs from concept to product shipment with new product introduction teams.
- Support customers by presenting technical information and assisting with product integration.
What you'll need
- Significant high-frequency design skills.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Optical Engineering with emphasis in hardware applied to signal processing and digital communication, and 2-4 years of related experience.
- Examples of hardware design where system block diagram pieces were designed and delivered.
- Evidence of end-to-end design and implementation of hardware designs with circuits in the 20GHz to 200GHz range.
- Ability to quickly learn to set up optical and electrical measuring instruments for sampled signal waveform acquisition.
- Strong problem-solving and quantitative data analysis skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with hardware design involving optical components like photodiodes and optical-to-electrical converters.
- Hands-on experience using electronics test equipment for signal sampling and test scenarios.
- Skill in using high-frequency and/or optical circuit simulation tools, such as ADS.
- Experience working with technology partners to define specifications for new ICs or fab processes.
- Evidence of designs realized in PC board, thin film, and optical structures.
- Knowledge of design to preserve signal integrity and minimize noise.
- Experience developing new IP and translating invention into end-user valued capabilities.

How we counted: 966 open Hardware Systems Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 102 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 19 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
