About the role

This role involves maintaining, controlling, and continuously improving manufacturing processes for optical and photonic products. You will ensure process stability, resolve production issues, and optimize existing processes for high-power semiconductor laser devices.

What you'll do

  • Develop manual/automated optical alignment equipment.
  • Develop associated optical component attach processes (e.g., lenses, mirrors, fiber) and transfer them to manufacturing.
  • Contribute to failure mode analysis (FMA) and qualification of products related to alignment.
  • Perform data analysis utilizing DOE, SPC, and FMEA tools throughout the product life cycle.
  • Work on conceptual design layout, vendor interaction, package prototyping, testing, and performance characterization.

What you'll need

  • MS/PhD in optical, electrical, or physical engineering or equivalent with 6+ years experience in optoelectronics.
  • Expertise in complex (6 degree) micro-optic alignment equipment/programming (HW/SW) and attach processes (e.g., epoxy or solder).
  • Expertise with submicron fiber-attach methods (materials, processes and fixtures) to achieve high-coupling stability for SM pumps.
  • Expertise with automated alignment/attach equipment (HW/SW).
  • Knowledge of optics, optical design, tolerance analysis.
  • Experience in conceptual design layout, vendor interaction, package prototyping, testing, and performance characterization.
  • Experience with high-power semiconductor laser devices.
  • Familiarity with six-sigma techniques, e.g., design for manufacturability/reliability (DFx), SPC, GR&R.

Nice to have

  • Manufacturing Process Sustaining
  • Technical Problem Solving
  • Data Analysis and Decision-Making
  • Process Improvement and Optimization
  • Quality and Compliance Awareness
