What you'll do
- Partner with design engineering to influence architecture, material selection, manufacturing methods, critical specifications, and supplier selection.
- Translate drawings, bills of materials, assembly documentation, and functional requirements into clear supplier deliverables.
- Assess and qualify suppliers through design-for-manufacturability reviews, supplier assessments, process capability studies, pilot builds, and audits.
- Develop suppliers for electro-mechanical assemblies, including mechanical components, electrical interfaces, harnesses, cables, and connectors.
- Collaborate across design, manufacturing engineering, operations, supplier quality, and commodity management to resolve quality issues and improve yield.
- Support lifecycle readiness through approved vendor alignment, supplier change control, and continuity-of-supply planning.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Systems engineering.
- 5 to 8 years of experience in supplier engineering, product engineering, process development, quality engineering, or electro-mechanical assembly manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of electro-mechanical design intent, mechanical fit and function, electrical interfaces, and material selection.
- Experience with electro-mechanical assembly processes such as precision mechanical fabrication, cable or harness integration, connector installation, and torque and fastening controls.
- Experience with supplier and assembly qualification, first article inspection, bill of materials and drawing reviews, design for manufacturability, PFMEA, control plans, statistical process control, and Gage R&R.
- Ability to translate design intent and product documentation into supplier requirements, measurable controls, and inspection strategies.
Nice to have
- Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, datum strategy, electrical and mechanical interface requirements, CMM, vision, and functional test expectations.
- Experience with cable and connector integration, fixture and tooling reviews, torque and fastening requirements, adhesive or bonding processes, plating, coating, and surface finish.
- Experience with fixture design, mistake-proofing tooling, inspection plans, supplier process validation, and electro-mechanical functional test validation.
- Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or equivalent data-driven quality experience.
- Experience working with a global supply base.

How we counted: 946 open Hardware Systems Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 102 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 13 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
