Focus on silicon validation of DDR memory controllers and subsystems.
About the role
This role involves the silicon validation of memory controllers and subsystems at the full-system level, from pre-silicon environments through first-silicon bring-up and post-silicon qualification. This includes validating memory technologies such as DDR4, DDR5, LPDDR4/LPDDR5, and HBM.
What you'll do
- Participate in silicon bring-up of memory controllers, including board power-on, clocks, resets, boot flow, JTAG access, and firmware initialization.
- Develop and execute validation plans, firmware- and software-based tests, and system-level workloads to verify controller functionality, initialization, training, data integrity, performance, power management, reliability, and error handling.
- Create test content and low-level firmware using C, Python, and other scripting languages.
- Validate controller features including ECC, error injection, refresh, scrambling, encryption, address mapping, interleaving, arbitration, and low-power states.
- Measure and optimize memory bandwidth, latency, timing, calibration, and performance across supported configurations.
- Debug issues, correlate results between pre-silicon and silicon, and drive controller validation through product qualification and production readiness.
What you'll need
- 5 years of experience (Bachelor's degree) or 3 years of experience (Master's degree) in memory subsystem validation with hands-on exposure to validating memory technologies such as DDR4, DDR5, LPDDR4/LPDDR5, HBM, or related interfaces, controllers, and system integration.
- Understanding of memory controller architecture and protocols, including DDR4/DDR5, LPDDR4/LPDDR5, HBM.
- Knowledge of DFI, JEDEC standards, ECC/RAS, power management.
- Proficiency in C for firmware and low-level testing, plus Python, Perl, Shell, or similar scripting languages for automation.
- Understanding of embedded processors, memory maps, registers, interrupts, DMA, boot flows, and Linux or embedded operating systems.
- Experience debugging hardware/software interaction issues using logs, register dumps, waveforms, protocol traces, and failure signatures; and experience with lab and debug tools such as JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, trace tools, and debug probes.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with first-silicon bring-up, evaluation boards, reference platforms, and post-silicon validation.
- Knowledge of embedded systems, hardware–software interaction, firmware, operating-system behaviour, board-level debug, system performance analysis, AMBA protocols, and silicon characterization.
- Familiarity with UVM/System Verilog, FPGA or emulation platforms, automated regression, CI, silicon characterization, and production or system-level qualification.

How we counted: 344 open Post-Silicon Validation (Silicon Validation) roles from 61 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 27 Sept 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Silicon Validation & Test family row.
