About the role
Qualcomm is seeking a CPU RTL/AI Micro-Architect to embed AI capabilities across the CPU engineering lifecycle from architecture exploration to RTL development, analysis, and debug.
What you'll do
- Apply and extend internal AI tools and agent-based workflows to enhance RTL design productivity, code review, and quality analysis. - Build AI-assisted capabilities for timing, power, and area (PPA) tradeoffs and early identification of microarchitectural bottlenecks. - Enable automated debug acceleration, including waveform triage, root-cause identification, and specification-to-RTL consistency alignment. - Embed AI tooling directly into existing toolchains and methodologies including lint, synthesis, simulation, and debug. - Collaborate with CAD, design verification (DV), and global design teams to scale AI-enabled workflows across programs.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 6+ years of relevant engineering experience (or Master's with 5+ years, or PhD with 4+ years). - Professional experience in Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work.
Nice to have
- Strong knowledge of AI/LLM-based engineering tools, including agentic tools (such as Codex, Claude Code) and agent-based AI development (prompting, chaining, orchestration). - Solid experience with Verilog/SystemVerilog (or VHDL) RTL design, simulation, waveform debug, and verification tools. - Knowledge of CPU design techniques, logic design principles, timing/power implications, low-power microarchitecture techniques, and high-performance design tradeoffs.

How we counted: 1084 open Digital/RTL Design (RTL Design) roles from 103 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 24 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Digital Design & Verification family row. Figures refresh nightly.
