About the role
This role drives the technical direction and development of custom AI accelerator simulation infrastructure. The team builds bit-accurate and cycle-aware hardware models to enable software development, debugging, and hardware-software co-design before silicon is available.
What you'll do
- Provide technical leadership for the chip simulation team across architecture, implementation, debugging, and performance optimization.
- Own simulation infrastructure to ensure accuracy, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Oversee simulator integration, including simulated hardware modules, QEMU-based host integration, and multi-chip simulation.
- Drive hardware-software co-design by partnering with hardware architects, firmware, kernel, and software teams to enable pre-silicon development.
- Lead design and code reviews, establish testing strategies, and mentor engineers.
- Contribute hands-on to critical implementations, debugging, and architectural prototyping.
What you'll need
- Deep expertise in C/C++ and low-level systems software development.
- Experience leading complex technical projects and guiding engineers through design, implementation, and code reviews.
- Strong understanding of computer architecture, hardware-software interfaces, and systems programming.
- Experience building hardware simulators, architectural models, or complex systems software.
- Track record of owning complex software systems from architecture through delivery.
- Strong debugging skills across hardware and software boundaries.
Skills: C++, SystemC, gem5, QEMU, cycle-accurate, AI accelerator

How we counted: 34 open SoC/Chip Architecture (AI ML Hardware) roles from 12 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 3 Nov 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Digital Design & Verification family row. Figures refresh nightly.
